# Copilot

> Ask questions grounded in your content and control which proposed actions run.

Open `/copilot` for the full copilot. Press **⌘J** anywhere in the app to open it with the current note, activity, or subject as context.

## Ask about your material

Try a specific request, such as:

- "Explain this paragraph using my biology notes."
- "Make flashcards from yesterday's lecture."
- "Help me plan revision around this week's deadlines."

## Work with threads

WorkRoad saves your threads and groups them by subject. You can search, pin, rename, move, or delete them.

Copilot searches your notes and cites the material it uses. Open the citations to check an answer against its sources. If it cannot find the material you need, mention the relevant item or provide more context.

Type `@` in the composer to mention a note, task, flashcard set, subject, recording, or test. This pulls that specific item into the conversation.

## Review actions

The copilot can propose actions. What happens next depends on the action:

- Tasks, notes and folders can be created automatically, with undo, subject to action limits. A reply that used web research waits for confirmation instead.
- Edits, deletions, timetable changes, study blocks and settings changes wait for **Confirm** on their card. Check the proposed values first.
- Generating notes or flashcards also waits for confirmation; the card says when it counts as an AI use. Review generated cards before saving the set.
- Text proposed for the open note can be checked with **Preview in note** and accepted in the editor.
- Navigation is a link for you to open; Copilot does not follow it for you.

## Change settings

Ask the copilot to change a setting, such as "turn off email for task reminders" or "set my daily goal to 30 cards". It reads your settings, then shows the change on a card: each field and its new value. Nothing changes until you confirm it.

It can update profile and app preferences, notifications, review goals, task preferences and the dashboard, and delete a calendar feed. A reply that used web search cannot change settings. For a new calendar feed, webhooks or account and security changes, follow its link to Settings and complete the change there.

## Dictate a message

1. Select the microphone in the composer or command palette, allow microphone access and speak.
2. Select stop when you are done. Dictation also stops after one minute.
3. Edit the text added to your draft, then send it yourself. Nothing is sent automatically, and Copilot replies in text. In the command palette, Alt+M starts and stops dictation.

In the command palette, dictated text searches like typed text. Search takes up to 200 characters, so for anything longer press Enter to ask Copilot, which takes up to 4,000.

### Dictation limits and retries

Dictation doesn't use your monthly AI uses. It turns off once a free plan has used them, because you couldn't send the message. The free plan includes 5 dictations a day and paid plans 20. Cancelling before the audio is sent costs nothing. If sending fails, **Try again** sends the same dictation again without counting it twice.

The audio is transcribed and not kept, and the text is only saved once you send it.

## Choose a tier

The tier picker in the composer controls how much thinking a turn gets. Scholar is the default. Sage requires a paid plan.

| Tier | What it is for |
| ------- | --------------------------------------- |
| Swift | Fast answers and everyday questions |
| Scholar | Balanced thinking and speed |
| Sage | Deep reasoning for the hardest material |

The same tiers appear when AI work starts in chat, test building, or generation. Note generation offers Swift and Scholar only.
